    Between 1999 and 2008, the rate of Clostridium difficile (or C-diff) infections in Illinois hospitals doubled.  In response to the increase in this serious infection, the Illinois Department of Public Health initiated a C-diff Quality Improvement Collaborative, together with IFMC-IL, the Illinois Quality Improvement Organization.  Launched in March 2010, the Collaborative challenged 20 hospitals to reduce their C-diff rates by 20% in 18 months.
